Welcome to the Nelson Region
Nelson is located at the north end of the South Island, on Tasman Bay, and enjoys some of the highest sunshine hours in New Zealand. Not only does this make the Nelson - Tasman region a great place for a summer holiday, its mild winters are increasingly making it a year-round tourist destination.
Wander round Nelson and enjoy the restaurants, cafes and bars. Port Nelson is the biggest fishing port in Australasia so it’s hardly surprising that excellent seafood is available. Stroll through the public parks and gardens and explore the arts and crafts galleries. If you are here at the weekend, visit the Saturday Market for fresh local produce and arts & crafts. Drive up to picturesque Cable Bay and go sea kayaking or for a thrill try the Skywire at Happy Valley Adventures. For a more relaxed day out visit some of the numerous boutique wineries in the Nelson/Richmond area.
For outdoor activities, there are three national parks within easy reach. Abel Tasman is probably the most well-known and a multitude of activities are available. To watch a video (about 8 minutes) of Abel Tasman, Nelson Lakes and Kahurangi National Parks click here.
For something completely different visit the World of Wearable Art and Classic Cars Museum.
