About Muritai Manor Bed & Breakfast
Your Hosts – Alex & Julia Hunter
We are relatively recent arrivals in New Zealand, having moved here from the UK for a better quality of life. We have travelled extensively in Europe, North America, India, Malaysia, Southern Africa, Australia and New Zealand over the years and we decided that New Zealand was the place that we would most like to live – wonderful scenery, friendly people (and a pretty good rugby team).
Our plan was to run a B & B when we could find the place that was right for us. Our first base was Timaru, where Julia has relatives. We spent a lot of time looking around the South Island before deciding that Nelson, and Muritai Manor in particular, was the place we wanted to make our home. Since moving to Muritai, we have continued the loving restoration begun by the previous owners, in order to bring this fine old Edwardian building back to its former glory.
We have a small flock of traditional breeds of hens, which are free to roam the gardens during the day and provide the delicious fresh eggs we serve at breakfast. We also have a bee hive in the garden so that we can serve our own honey. Read more about our delicious food and the warm Nelson welcome you'll receive at Muritai.
We share our home with 2 cats (both adopted from the SPCA) but these are not allowed into the guest areas of the house.
